In 1971 John Alden came up with some improvements to his great Challenger design and the result was the Boothbay Explorer. "Explorer" was the first of this great design and not many were built. "Explorer" was the Boat of the Show at Newport in 1973. Many improvements were made by the first owner during trhe build, including a 3/8" Neoprene hull liner. The present 3rd owners have made over $100,000 in upgrades and improvements ranging from re-doing the interior to all new standing rigging in 2006. This combined with the over $100,000 that the previous owners spent in upgrades and improvements mean that "Explorer" is not a 1973 but a 1996/2007. If you know this Alden design, this is by far the best one around.
